"Ugh... what happened...?"

The boy rose from what appeared to be an eternal slumber. The landscape around him was cold and desolate. Everywhere he looked, there would be a blank space surrounding him.

"Where... where am I...?"

"I can answer that question for you."

Surprised, the boy turned around to see what appeared to be a horse. Except this was no ordinary horse. It's skin was decaying to the point where the skeleton was close to being exposed. But that wasn't the most bizarre part. What really caught the boy's attention was the rider of said horse. His skin was pale, his attire was ominous, and his mask resembled a skull with a permanant scowl. He wanted to be afraid of him... but for some odd reason, he couldn't feel fear. He couldn't feel any kind of emotion.

"What's going on? Who are you?"

The rider got off his horse and walked towards the boy.

"Stand up," he ordered in a gravelly voice.

The boy didn't understand him at first, but one look at the rider's eyes got him on his feet quickly.

"Now, you want to know where you are, correct?"

The boy nodded.

"Very well. At the moment, you are in Purgatory, the realm between the Heaven and Hell."

The boy's eyes widened in shock. "What? Purgatory? But... why?"

The rider sighed irritably. "Honestly, you still haven't realized it yet?"

"Realized what?"

The rider walked towards the boy until he was an inch away from him.

"You are in Purgatory, which means you are dead... Ikki Kurogane."
